The Fairfield Public Library was evacuated Friday afternoon after an unattended bag with a threatening message was discovered.

A patron of the library’s main branch discovered the laptop-style bag about 1:50 p.m. Friday, according to police, with the message — “Kill for Peace” — written on the outside. No one claimed the bag, police said.

The library was evacuated as a precaution, while the Stamford bomb squad was called to the scene to assist the investigation into the possible danger of the threat.

After no danger was detected, the library was reopened.

The investigation continues, and police said surveillance video is being reviewed for potential clues.
