JP Philbin Landscapes Inc. plans on moving to Bridgeport's Black Rock section to open a garden center after running a landscaping business for almost four decades from a 1,000-square-foot site off Commerce Drive.

The business is building a new Philbin Family Garden Center at 3369-3375 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, said James Philbin of Fairfield, who owns it with his father and founder, Jospeh Philbin of Easton.

It will be comprised of a two-story building covering 1,500 square feet on an 18,000-square-foot parcel.

The new venue, expected to sell Christmas trees in late fall and be fully open by the spring, will sell shrubs, trees, evergreens, perennials, annuals and gardening supplies.

It will also serve as the business' headquarters, James Philbin said.

Three to five workers will be added to the present staff of seven employees for the new location, he said.

The business has entered into a "long-term" lease for the new site, according to property owner S.C.A. Commercial Real Estate of Westport.
