Letter: Obama lied on health plan

Obamacare is a 2,000 page bill of which Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying, "We have to pass it to know what's in it." I was recently reading articles that referred to aspects of this bill I knew would affect me personally.
On July 14, I called Congressman Jim Himes office' with three specific questions about the act. I was told I would get an answer within two weeks. Three weeks passed and I called back. They had my questions on record, but they were still researching it.
Fast forward to Sept. 12, two months after I first posed the questions. I received a call from "Kevin" in the Congressman's office. Here is what Kevin was able to confirm two months after being asked: Obama lied. Not Kevin's words, but the truth.
Obama said: "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."
Under current law, you can deduct any medical expenses that exceed 7.5 percent of your adjusted gross income. In order to find ways to pay for Obamacare, the president is increasing the threshold to 10 percent -- a 33 percent increase. There is not an income qualifier for this increase. It applies to all incomes. This is a tax increase. This is Obama being caught in a lie. You wouldn't know it based on the media coverage.
Another lie pertains to what they call The Cadillac Health Insurance Plan Tax. Starting in 2018, there will be a new 40 percent excise tax on taxpayers who are covered by high-cost health insurance plans (with premiums at or above $10,200 for a single or $27,500 for a family) regardless of income.
I purchase my insurance directly from Anthem. It is currently requesting a 15 percent increase. (What happened to $2,500 decreases to premiums, Mr. President?) If they get it, my insurance goes to $21,000. If I average increases of 5 percent per year to 2018, I will exceed the $27,500 and will be subject to -- guess what? -- a new tax.
This is as much an effort to bring in more revenue to pay for this monstrous bill as it is Obama's ultimate desire for single payer, government-run healthcare. It is what he always wanted, and he is on video expressing that exact thought. So how many times do you, the voter, allow a liar to continue to lie without consequence? I say we have heard enough. I encourage those who consider themselves independents to reflect on what you have just read.
If someone makes a pledge to me and blatantly shatters that pledge, do I reward him with four more years? He ran in 2008 with no record. He has one now, and it should not be ignored. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on us all.
