I am writing to support Catherine Albin's candidacy for the four-year term on the Board of Finance. Albin has spent 20 years serving the town of Fairfield in various capacities, without ever putting the interests of party ahead of the interests of the town.
Before running for public office, Albin was active in the PTA, and also served under a Republican administration on the Downtown Revitalization Committee. More recently, she conceived and led the Burr Gardens Advisory Committee in order to improve and make better use of one of the town's underutilized resources. Albin served 12 years on the Board of Education -- two as vice chairman under Republican Chair John Madeo, and three as chairman. While on the BOE, Albin facilitated the opening and renovation of buildings as necessary, the improvement of policies and procedures, hiring of superintendents, and the successful negotiation of labor contracts. She also played a key role in 12 years of budgets, during which Fairfield maintained its status as a premier school system and spending growth was held well below the statewide average. More recently, Albin has served on the Board of Finance, where she has already caused examination of previously unexamined expenditures and policies.
Albin has done all of the foregoing in her singular style: serious; working equally with Democrats and Republicans; and demonstrating that what works is hard work, common sense and a lack of concern for who gets credit. The town needs Albin's continuing service on the Board of Finance.
