Updated 10:43 am, Friday, June 20, 2014
I am pleased and honored to thank the numerous businesses and people who helped make Relay for Life's reception for cancer survivors and their caregivers a success. Some 134 survivors were able to come and be honored for their courage in their personal battle with cancer.
Thanks to Gillian Clark, ACS Relay for Life Specialist; Norci Korchman, past Survivor Reception chair; Survivor Reception Co-Chair Audrey Wood; Honorary Youth Chair Viviana Rivera; and Honorary Adult Chair Paul Fletcher.
Thanks to the following for donating food: Billy's Bakery, Black Rock Cafe, Chip's, Circle Diner, Cinzano's, Maione's, Mamma Mina's, Nauti Dolphin, Panera Bread, Pizza Palace, Primo Pizza, ShopRite, So CT Oil & Ice, Stop & Shop (Villa Avenue and Kings Highway), Subway, Tomato & Basil, Village Bagels, and Whole Foods.
Thank you to Ganim's Garden Center for its floral centerpieces, St. Anthony's Church for healing shawls, and O&G Industries for river rocks that were made into "Hope Stones."
Survivors enjoyed door prizes from Bridgeport Bluefish, Calico of Westport, Discovery Museum, Grilled Cheese Eatery, Lia Sophia, Massage Envy, Red Mango, Redbox, and Splash Car Wash, as well as gift cards donated by Melissa Rosenbluh and Pam Suchocki.
Also, thanks to the many people who helped by donating food, supplies, time, and moral support: Ana Barbosa, Betty Gunter, Bob Horvath, Carol Aducci, Cathy Plavcan, Dareen Nicholls, Debbie and Nicole Wamser, Jill Kellerman, Joy & Joel Goldowsky, Linda Piliero, Liz Lyons, Louise Vezina, Lynne Yaversky, Marie Stalling, Melissa Rosenbluh, Michael Horatis, Paul Fletcher, Shannon Goodchild, Tricia Money, Boy Scout Troop 199 (Lisa and Christian Kinne, Pat and Sean Raftery, Flo, Paul and Thomas O'Brien, Kelton Engemann, Kate Carroll, Chris Granger), Junior Women's Club (Marlene Battista, Nancy Davidson, Garbrielle Ambrose), Fairfield Ludlowe High School Athletic Director Dave Schultz and his staff, Ludlowe's Key Club, and teams that donated desserts.
As a 10-year breast cancer survivor, I have attended the Fairfield Relay For Life Survivor Reception for many years, but this was my first year as co-chair. Thanks to the support of everyone listed above (and to anyone else I may have forgotten to mention), the evening was a great success!
We as a community are affecting the lives of so many! See you at the 2015 Relay!
