Lifeguard hours curtailed as Fairfield’s beach season wanes
Updated 6:20 am, Saturday, August 15, 2015
With the summer beach season winding down, the Parks and Recreation Department has set shortened hours for lifeguard coverage of the town’s beaches.
At Jennings, Penfield, Sasco, Southport and Lake Mohegan beaches, lifeguards will be on duty every day through Aug. 30. There will be no lifeguards on duty Aug. 31 through Sept. 4, but they will return for the Labor Day weekend Sept. 5-7.
Swimming areas at the beaches may be reduced because of fewer lifeguards, and beachgoers are reminded to swim only in permitted areas.
Lifeguards will no longer be on duty at South Pine Creek beach after Aug. 23.
The boathouses at Penfield and Jennings beaches will only be open the weekends of Sept. 5, 12 and 19. Boathouse hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
