Light pole tumbles down in Post Road lot, narrowly missing vehicles

A light pole in the parking lot of the Rite Aid pharmacy downtown crashed to the ground Friday morning -- narrowly missing several vehicles parked around its base.

The stanchion broke into several pieces and the lighting fixture was smashed.

There was no indication that the pole had fallen after being struck by a vehicle in the pharmacy lot at 1619 Post Road, according to police.

Early indications are that the severe winter, and overnight winds, may have loosened the pole and contributed to its collapse.
