Lovable little Leroy looking for home for the holidays

He's nothing like the "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" of musical notoriety, so former Selectman Sherri Steeneck hopes this lovable "Leroy" will find a home for the holidays.

"He's sweet and gentle," Steeneck said as she introduced the latest "Wednesday's Pet" to the Board of Selectmen last week.

Part German shepherd, it's believed Leroy is between 6 months and 1 year old. "He's incredibly gentle," Steeneck said, adding that it appears he would be a great pet for a family with children.

Steeneck has been featuring a pet from the town's Animal Control Shelter once a month at the selectmen meetings for about two years. Among the animals looking to be adopted that she has brought to selectmen's meetings, in addition to dogs, are cats, rabbits and even a bird.

And all of them, she said, have been adopted. "I'm still undefeated," Steeneck said.

Dogs that have not been spayed or neutered cost $50 to adopt, though the new owners receive a voucher toward spaying/neutering and two vaccinations. The adoption fee for altered dogs is $5.
