Derek Calcano, 22, who now lives on Clover Street in Milford, was arrested on a warrant last week in connection with the theft of a check from a former roommate in Fairfield.

Calcano was charged July 8 with second-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny, and released on a promise to appear Thursday at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.

According to police, Calcano stole his then-roommate’s paycheck in April, depositing $162 into his bank account and withdrawing $100 of it in cash. He told the victim that a friend had taken the check and he just helped cash it, with the intention of returning the money to her.

She said he eventually did repay the money, but wanted him arrested anyway, according to the report.
