Man accused of trying to cash forged checks from Jewish Home

A Bridgeport man wearing a yarmulke tried to cash two forged payroll checks from the Jewish Home for the Elderly on Thursday, police said.

Santiago Patino-Cardenas, 24, of Colorado Avenue, Bridgeport, was charged with second-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery, criminal attempt to commit fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny.

Patino-Cardenas tried to cash two checks totaling $955.10 at TD Bank, 1643 Post Road, according to the report. An accomplice who drove Patino-Cardenas to the bank left before police arrived.

Patino-Cardenas was released on a promise to appear May 12 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
