Randy Zingo, 38, of Philemon Drive, was charged with breach of peace and interfering with a 911 call Tuesday night after his mother told police he tried to smother her with a comforter.

The 66-year-old woman was out of breath and unsteady on her feet when officers arrived to investigate, according to the report. She said Zingo tried to smother her several times with a comforter and took the phone away while she was calling 911.

Zingo, who met officers at the home's back door, said his mother had just returned from being out with a new boyfriend for the past three days and he picked up the comforter and threw it on her in an attempt "to shut her up."

He was held on a $5,000 and was scheduled to have appeared Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
