James Dunn, 68, of Home Fair Drive, was charged with driving under the influence Monday night after police said he drove into a construction site on North Benson Road near the railroad bridget.

An officer saw Dunn drive into two large traffic cones blocking a travel lane around 11 p.m. He attempted to made a U-turn, almost causing an accident with oncoming cars, polie said, and then drove toward two patrol cars, both of which had their emergency lights activated, that were blocking traffic on North Benson Road.

He was pulled over on the Post Road near Round Hill Road, and police said he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He also admitted to drinking, police said.

Dunn told officers he could not perform field sobriety tests, and later took a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit, according to the report.

He was released on a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
