Kenneth Betza, 53, of Eastlawn Street, was charged with driving under the influence Thursday after he collided with the plow on a truck on Ruane Street.

Betza told police he noticed the plow, which had been clearing a private driveway, as he passed but that it was too late to stop. He refused to provide his insurance card officers at the scene, and admitted to having a couple of drinks at a friend's house, according to the report.

Betza was belligerent, police said, and appeared to be glassy-eyed. He refused to perform field sobriety tests, or submit to an alcohol breath test, police said.

In addition to the DUI, Betza was also charged with traveling unreasonably fast for conditions. He was released on a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 24 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
