A Lovers Lane man was charged Saturday afternoon with assaulting his mother's 66-year-old boyfriend.

Robert G. O'Donnell, 43, was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a victim over 60 and disorderly conduct.

The victim came to police headquarters to report the alleged assault. He said he and O'Donnell were moving a computer table, when the table suddenly flipped over and fell to the ground, according to the report.

The man told police that O'Donnell began punching him in the head and body, first with his fists and then a screwdriver, according to the report. He told police that he was able to break free and ran into the house, where they all live, and then got into his car and left. There were visible injuries on the older man's head, but he did not require hospitalization, police said.

O'Donnell was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
