When police were called to a Shady Hill Road home Sunday to investigate the report of a man threatening to hurt himself, they were told that he had attacked his girlfriend the night before, according to the report.
It was while trying to talk to Michael Schroeder, 30, about his behavior the previous night, the girlfriend told police that Schroeder held a knife to his chest, according to police. He then began hitting himself with an empty glass beer jug until he fell to the ground.
The girlfriend ran from the house and called police, worried because her baby was still in the house, police said.
Schroeder was taken into custody without incident. According to the report, Schroeder allegedly choked and whipped the woman the night before, causing significant bruising, police said.
He was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport for an evaluation and upon his release later that night, was taken into custody. Schroeder was charged with second-degree stangulation, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
Schroeder was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear the next day at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
