Joel Lopez, 27, of Beechwood Avenue, Bridgeport, is accused by police of breaking into cars at The Edge gym's parking lot in January.

Lopez, who was picked up by Bridgeport police Monday evening at the P.T. Barnum apartments and turned over to Fairfield, was charged on a warrant with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree larceny, credit card theft and illegal use of credit cards.

Police were looking for Lopez in connection with four car break-ins at the Kings Highway gym on the evening of Jan. 27. Among the things stolen were a GPS unit, $200 in cash and several credit and bank cards, according to police. Lopez allegedly tried to use one of the stolen debit cards to buy cigarettes at a market on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport that same night, but the transaction was denied.

Bond was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear Aug. 7 at Bridgeport Superior Court.
