A Fairfield man was charged on a warrant last Friday with cashing stolen and forged checks.
James D. Souza, 23, of Kenwood Avenue, was charged with third-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.
According to police, Souza cashed two checks, totaling $300, at two different TB Bank branches last July. The checks were stolen from a Belmont Street resident, who apparently knew Souza. The police report stated the checks were made out to "cash" and Souza was not asked for identification at the Black Rock Turnpike branch, because he was a regular customer there.
At the Post Road branch, where he cashed the second check, he showed his driver's license.
Bond was set at $7,500 bond and he is scheduled to appear Jan. 21 in state Superior Court.
