A New Haven man has been charged with robbing a motel clerk at knifepoint earlier this year.

Rodney Terrell Moore, 37, of Prospect Avenue, New Haven, was charged Friday with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny while at Bridgeport Superior Court.

Police said that Moore is the man recorded by a surveillance video camera in March entering the lobby of the Best Western motel, 100 Kings Highway Cutoff, and threatening the clerk with a knife.

The clerk, who was counting the night's receipts, said Moore first asked if a relative was staying at the motel, but she said she did not find that person registered. She said Moore than made a call on his cell phone before pulling out a knife, telling her to step back and jumping over the counter. He grabbed all the cash on the rear counter and then fled.

Moore is being held on a $250,000 bond, police said.
