Jordan B. Ranney, 28, has been charged with filing a false statement after they said he lied on an application for a pistol permit.
Ranney, of Bibbins Avenue, turned himself in at police headquarters Saturday.
According to the report, Ranney applied for the permit on April 8 and failed to declare on the application form that he had been previously arrested several times. Police said he only listed one arrest.
Court records show Ranney pleaded guilty in 2001 to a fourth-degree larceny charge. He was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended after 30 days, and three years probation. He also pleaded guilty in Norwalk to conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and fined $300.
He was released on a promise to appear Oct. 12 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
