Man charged with smashing woman's phone at restaurant

David W. Salerno III, 45, of Old Hickory Road, was arrested on a warrant Monday at state Superior Court in Bridgeport after being accused of smashing a fellow customer's cell phone at a local restaurant.
Salerno was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief because, while at the Little Goose restaurant last November, he allegedly grabbed another patron's cell phone and threw it to the floor, breaking the device.
The phone owner said she was at the Commerce Drive restaurant with her boyfriend, who had gone outside to smoke a cigarette. She was talking on her phone, she said, when Salerno, who she has known for about two years, grabbed its and smashed it by tossing it on the floor. She told police he also pushed her and tried to punch her in the face, but was restrained by the restaurant's wait staff, according to the report. Salerno then left the scene.
The police report did not give any indication of what may have caused to the incident.
Salerno was released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 9.
