Joseph Biancheri, 23, of West Haven, was charged Friday in connection with the Sept. 16 theft of a purse from The Pantry, 1580 Post Road. He was arrested by Fairfield police on a warrant at Bridgeport Superior Court.

A customer reported her purse was stolen from her shopping cart, and her credit cards were illegally used here and in West Haven, Milford and Derby, police said. Charges totaled over $1,000.

The investigation led to Biancheri, according to police, who was charged with sixth-degree larceny, attempted fifth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card and receiving goods and services illegally.

He was arraigned Friday and held on a $5,000 bond.
