A Fairfield man was charged shortly after midnight Tuesday for arguing with and making threats against a woman -- who has a protective order against him -- during a confrontation at Archie Moore's, 48 Sanford St., police said.

John T. Best, 32, who was charged with breach of peace, threatening and violation of a protective order, became engaged in a verbal, expletive-laced dispute with the woman, telling her at one point that "she's dead," police said. The bartender called police when he heard Best also tell the woman he planned to vandalize her car, according to the report.

Police found Best on Bridgeport's Fairfield Avenue and took him into custody.

Held on $25,000 bond, Best was scheduled to appear later Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
