Mohamed Moussa, 23, of Pierce Street, was talking on his cell phone and failed to stop at a red traffic light on Kings Highway Saturday night, causing an accident, police said.

Moussa went through the red light at Chambers Street and Kings Highway, cutting in front of another car and causing that car to hit his van, police said. Moussa left the scene, but a witness gave police the license plate number of his van. When officers went to the Pierce Street address, the van was there and damage to its rear bumper was consistent with the accident, police said. Moussa told police he got out of the van at the time of the crash, but saw no damage to his vehicle and left.

He was charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility, failure to obey a traffic signal and distracted driving. Moussa was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 22 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
