A man being held in the Fairfield police lock-up on a charge of driving under the influence Sunday night said someone stole his wallet, containing $131 in cash, while he was in the cell.

Troy Ruff, 47, of Milford Point Road, Milford, had been charged with DUI that evening after a caller reported he was driving recklessly on Black Rock Turnpike. When he was stopped by police, he said he'd been at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post drinking all day, according to the report.

He failed field sobriety tests and was being held on a $100 bond. After he said his wallet was stolen, he was released on a promise to appear Aug. 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Ruff told police another prisoner had been in the booking area, and after that man left, his wallet was gone. Police are reviewing surveillance video of the cell for the investigation.
