Matthew Decredico, 23, of Norwalk, was charged with sixth-degree larceny around 4 p.m. Thursday following an incident at Home Depot, 541 Kings Highway Cutoff.

Decredico walked into the store with a receipt in hand, made his way over to the lumber department, grabbed two solar post caps (often used to illuminate a yard, garden or walkway) and then walked to the refund desk in an apparent attempt to get cash for the unbought items, police said.

However, store security personnel had been watching him and when they approached, Decredico tried to run, and pushed a female who was in his way. His escape, said police, was unsuccessful.

He was detained and subsequently turned over to Fairfield police.

Released on $50 bond, he is scheduled to appear July 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
