An apparently intoxicated man suffered head injuries after falling onto the tracks Wednesday at the Southport Railroad Station.

The incident took place shortly before 2:30 p.m. when police received a call that a man was lying on the eastbound tracks with head injuries.

Fairfield police, firefighters and AMR Ambulance were dispatched to the scene, and found Gary Byman, 50, of Milford, on the tracks directly behind Paci restaurant.

Byman told rescuers he had fallen off the passenger platform and suffered a head laceration when he hit the tracks. He appeared to be intoxicated, police said.

He was quickly removed from the tracks and transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment.

Train traffic, which was halted briefly in the area while rescue operations took place, resumed a short time later.
