The man who died after being struck by an Amtrak train at the downtown train station Saturday is believed to be a 52-year-old resident of New Haven

The man's name had not been released by officials as of Monday, and the circumstances of his death remain under investigation.

He was hit on the tracks by a Boston-bound Amtrak train, and may have been trying to climb back up on the platform, Police Chief Gary MacNamara said.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are leading the investigation, spokesman Aaron Donovan said, because it has jurisdiction over the tracks through the station.

No crew members or any of the 185 passengers aboard the train were injured, according to Craig Schulz, an Amtrak spokesman.
