A team of McKinley School students captured third prize in a statewide problem-solving competition March 21 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

The third-, fourth- and fifth graders -- who dubbed themselves "The Cerebellum McKBrainiacs," competed against 16 other school teams in the 34th annual Connecticut Odyssey of the Mind State Competition.

Sherman School in the town of Sherman and John Read Middle School in Redding finished first and second, respectively, earning spots in the contest's national tournament in Michigan later this spring.

A total of six Fairfield teams competed in New Britain.

Two other McKinley teams finished sixth and 12th; two Stratfield School teams finished eighth and ninth, and two Tomlinson Middle School teams finished fifth and ninth in their division.
