The first night of Hanukkah will be observed today (Saturday, Dec. 8) when Chabad of Fairfield lights a 9-foot-tall menorah at the Sherman Green gazebo.
The public ceremony marking the start of the Festival of Lights will take place at 6:15 p.m. on the green, corner of Post and Reef roads.
Community officials will join the ceremony, which will include holiday music, dancing, hot latkes, doughnuts and a raffle.
Chabad of Fairfield will joins thousands of Chabad centers worldwide in staging public Hanukkah celebrations as part of a global effort to bring the observance of Jewish life and traditions into public places.
