Two more children killed in last week's shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School were laid to rest Tuesday.

In Newtown, the funeral of James R. Mattioli was held Tuesday morning at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by the burial at St. John's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Darien.

At noon, another Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the same church for Jessica Rekos, 6. Rekos loved horses and was "a creative, beautiful little girl who loved playing with her little brothers, Travis and Shane," her parents, Rich and Krista, said in a statement. "She devoted her free time to watching horse movies, reading horse books, drawing horses, and writing stories about horses," they said.

At James' funeral, little boys in suits entered the church for funeral of the child who loved sports and hamburgers. Church bells tolled as a light drizzle fell from the sky.

A hearse obscured the view of the manger outside St. Rose of Lima Church during the funeral of James, the first of two back to back funerals held at the church for victims of the Sandy Hook shooting last Friday that killed 20 children and six teachers.

A mourner leaving the church said James' mom spoke about the love she had for her child and what a positive influence he was.

James loved sports and hamburgers with ketchup. James, fondly called `J', was killed Friday in his classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School. An energetic, loving friend to all, James loved baseball, basketball, swimming, arm wrestling and playing games on the iPad (especially the lawn mowing game). He loved to wear shorts and T-shirts in any weather, and grab the gel to spike his hair. He would often sing at the top of his lungs and once asked, "How old do I have to be to sing on a stage?" James loved to dive off the diving board at the Treadwell Pool, swim like a fish in both of his grandparents' pools and ride his bike, proudly without training wheels. He often said, "I need to go outside Mom, I need fresh air."

Before his service was over, mourners for the noon funeral of Jessica started to arrive and were directed to a nearby school to wait. Many attending the second funeral were educators from Bridgeport. Jessica's mom Krista Rekos teaches at Blackham school and is on maternity leave.

Jessica's parents said in a statement, "we cannot imagine our life without her. We are mourning her loss, sharing our beautiful memories we have of her, and trying to help her brother Travis understand why he can't play with his best friend," they said. "We are devastated, and our hearts are with the other families who are grieving as we are."

George and Ridia Martino from Howard Beach in Queens, N.Y., traveled to Newtown to attend Jessica's funeral. "We came her to express our solidarity," said George Martino, who is not related to Jessica.

Fourteen police officers on motorists led the hearse carrying Jessica's casket to St. Rose's church.
