FAIRFIELD — Sunshine and blue skies Saturday made a perfect showcase to celebrate Earth — and many ways to sustain its natural diversity — at Fairfield’s annual Earth Day event.

Displays and demonstrations on the environment and energy were featured at the event in all kinds of “green” permutations, along with “trashy” fashions made from recycled materials, plant sales and gardening advice, vintage vehicles, music, food and even a replica of the airplane built by Gustave Whitehead, whose advocates believe made the first powered flight by man in Fairfield.

Mother Nature would have been pleased.
