A mother and daughter were charged Saturday with trying to steal merchandise from Kohl's department store, 290 Tunxis Hill Road.
Police said store security personnel saw Lucia Villatoro conceal $138 worth of jewelry in her pockets, while her daughter placed $80 worth of items in the bottom of a shopping carriage and then place her pocketbook on top. Delmy Vasquez-Villatoro then allegedly paid for a few items at the checkout register, but left without paying for merchandise in the carriage.
The state Department of Children and Families was notified because Vasquez-Villatoro had her 2-year-old daughter with her, according to the report.
Both women were released on a promise to appear Jan. 10 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
