A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 95 in Fairfield late Friday, an accident that shut down traffic in all three southbound lanes.

The motorcyclist, who was not immediately identified, was hospitalized for treatment of what firefighters said were life-threatening injuries.

The accident took place about 10:15 p.m. Friday between the highway's southbound Exits 25 and 24, according to the fire report on the incident.

Fire personnel on Engine 2, Ladder 2 and Car 3 were dispatched to the scene, where they found the injured motorcyclist and began administering emergency-medical care.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital by AMR Ambulance.

No other details on the accident were available as of early Saturday.
