Westport-based Music for Youth continues its 2013 Free Young Persons' Concert series with a free recital by tenor Alek Shrader at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Fairfield.

Shrader will sing a varied program of songs and arias in Italian, French, and English for the 50-minute performance, intended for families with children 5 to 18, according to a news release.

Raised in Oklahoma by opera-singing parents, Shrader studied at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla.; Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio; the Juilliard School in New York City; and the San Francisco Opera Honors Program, the release states.

In 2007, Shrader won the Metropolitan National Council Auditions and also is the recipient of a Sarah Tucker Grant from the Richard Tucker Foundation.

Shrader has performed numerous operatic roles, including Ferdinand in Ades' "The Tempest" and Almaviva in "The Barber of Seville" in the past year. He also appeared at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Germany, this year and is completing a recital tour throughout the United States.

No tickets are required. Adults without children are asked to make a goodwill donation.
