Westport-based Music for Youth will present its first Free Young Persons' Concert of 2013 with a performance by the Amphion String Quartet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave. The quartet, comprised of musicians who met while attending Yale University in New Haven, will present a varied program introducing young people to many aspects of the string quartet literature, according to a release. Its members include violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin and cellist Mihai Marica.

The group is a winner of the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, and the first-prize winner at both the Plowman Chamber Music competition and the Hugo Kauder String Quartet competitions. It will also join the roster of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Two program in 2013.

The ensemble, also the 2012-13 quartet-in-residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Bedford, N.Y., will make its Carnegie Hall debut in the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Recital Hall this year.

The 50-minute performance is free for families with children and geared toward ages 5 to 18. No tickets are required; adults without children are asked to make a goodwill donation.

Free master classes for advanced students of violin, viola, and cello will follow the concert. To register, call 203-938-3843.

Other concerts in Music for Youth's 2013 spring season include Metropolitan Opera singer Alek Shrader on Saturday, Feb. 9, and the American Brass Quintet on Saturday, March 16.
