A 17-year-old teen from Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested Wednesday evening after police said she shoplifted $450 worth of merchandise from Walgreen's, 730 Villa Ave.

Police said the incident began at CVS, 961 Black Rock Turnpike, around 7:30 p.m. when an off-duty Westport police officer saw two females allegedly shoplifting. They left in a Chrysler with New York license plates, according to the report.

A short time later, a pair matching their description was seen leaving Walgreen's. When ordered to stop by an officer, the pair ran off toward the Andros Diner, where they were taken into custody.

The teen, who was charged with sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and possession of a shoplifting device, was found to have put the merchandise into a "booster bag," which is lined to prevent triggering theft-detection alarms, police said.
