John Mara, 22, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., a nephew of New York Giants owner John Mara, surrendered to police on an assault charge stemming from an incident that seriously injured a New Year's Eve party goer on Fairfield Beach Road.

Police detectives said Mara struck another party goer over the head with a bottle, causing life-threatening injuries that required immediate surgery.

Mara was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. The name of the victim was not released.

The charges were filed after a two-month investigation by police detectives. A $150,000 bond was set and Mara is slated to appear March 8 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
