New Orleans jazz trombonist to play at Stage One

The Fairfield Theatre Company will present New Orleans jazz trombonist Glen David Andrews at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Growing up, Andrews played on the streets of the French Quarter and with jazz tubist Anthony "Tuba Fats" Lacen. Andrews was recruited into a brass band led by his younger cousin, Troy Andrews, and played in the New Birth, Lil Rascals and Treme brass bands, among others.
His Glen David Andrews Band plays traditional jazz, gospel, rock, blues and funk. His most recent live gospel album, "Walking Through Heaven's Gate," has recordings of him playing at venues such as Jazzfest, Lincoln Center, Preservation Hall and Tipitina'sg as well as on the streets.
Proceeds from ticket sales and CD purchases go to his Trumpets Not Guns initiative, founded to help kids at risk in New Orleans by providing them with an instrument and a musical voice.
