Sledding down the hill at Sturges Park on Mill Plain Road is a Fairfield tradition after a snowstorm, but police got a call Tuesday about a sledder using a very untraditional method to navigate the slopes.

An officer said when he arrived at the park to check on the 1:30 p.m. report, a 14-year-old, toting a dinghy, and the boy's mother were walking back to their car.

They were told by the officer that the small vessel was probably not the safest "sled" to use at the popular spot.

The report did not indicate the dinghy's size or whether it was a wood, fiberglass or inflatable boat.
