It was a most welcoming event.

The Fairfield/Easton Welcome Club took over a corner of Owen Fish Park in North Stratfield on Saturday to make some new families feel right at home in their new homwtown.

Manning a grill and making hot dogs and burgers was Skyler Smith, the club vice president, while Jenn LaPlante, the club's president, served the hungry gathering.

"This is our get-back-into-the-swing of things get-together," said LaPlante. "It's a chance for people to meet new people."

Besides grilled food, there was lots for attendees to do to keep themselves amused and bond: a children's entertainer making balloon animals, wiffle ball, coloring and crafts -- topped off by an ice cream truck visit.

Fun, food, fall and new friends -- a fine welcome to town.
