Nicholas Geambazi, 86, of Fairfield, died Jan. 29.

Born and raised in Woonsocket, R.I., he was the son of the late John (Nacu) and Maria Pittu Geambazi. He moved to Bridgeport in 1941 and moved to Fairfield 12 years ago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and later worked for Sikorsky Aircraft for many years until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, as well as the Society Farsarotul and the American Romanian Social Club.

Survivors include a sister, Irene Rigia; a brother, Charles Geambazi and his wife Elizabeth, and a sister Florence Geambazi, all of Fairfield; nephews Richard Rigia, Robert Geambazi and his wife Debra; nieces Susan Neal and Christine Rigia; great-nieces and great-nephews, Thomas Rigia and his wife Lisa, and Alexandra Rigia, Robert and Mark Neal, and Nicholas and Christine Geambazi, as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother George.

Funeral services are set for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, in St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours are Thursday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Trisagion Service at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dimitrie Church.
