Two days after the body of an upstate woman was found in Lawncroft Cemetery, the state medical examiner’s office reported Thursday that the likely cause of death may not be known for more than a month.
The body of Janelle Staffieri, who police said had been staying at a grandparent’s house close to the Black Rock Turnpike cemetery, was found just before noon Tuesday on the ground between a stone wall and wooden fence. The 38-year-old woman was a resident of Manchester.
Police said that, based on their preliminary investigation, they do not believe that Staffieri’s was the result of foul play.
Staffieri was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The cause of her death is still pending, a spokesman at the medical examiner’s office said, with a final determination not expected for another six to eight weeks.
