Nominations are open for a Fairfield resident who deserves community recognition and, as a result, will be selected to light the town's Christmas tree on Town Hall Green. The tree-lighting ceremony will be Friday, Dec. 6.

The person chosen in the town's "Nominate Someone Great to Light the Tree and Celebrate" contest will be given the honor to throw the switch lighting the towering tree after the crowd's countdown at 7 p.m.

First Selectman Michael Tetreau will introduce the honoree to the crowd.

The fir tree was planted by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The tree-lighting festivities begin with the Fairfield Woods, Roger Ludlowe and Tomlinson Middle School Chamber choirs singing songs of the season. The Bridgeport Theatre Company and the Fairfield Warde choral group also will perform. Santa Claus arrives by fire engine, and the town Youth Council will provide hot chocolate and free glow necklaces.

To make a nomination, visit www.fairfieldrecreation.com. The deadline is Monday, Nov. 25.

The tree-lighting is sponsored by the town's Parks and Recreation Department, Local 1426 Fairfield Fire Fighters and Fairfield Fire Rescue.
