PETER PAUL PECORA
Peter Paul Pecora, 84, a longtime resident of Fairfield and Yonkers, N.Y., died March 10, 2010, after a multi-month battle following hip surgery.
He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Nov. 4, 1925, to the late Michael and Luisa DeVita Pecora. Pecora married his college sweetheart, Nancy Hall, in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 1, 1951. She predeceased him in July, 1998.
He was the father of Nanette of Danbury, Michael of Easton, Claire of New Albany, Ohio, and Beth of Carmel, N.Y.; and father-in-law of Thomas Bouck (Nanette), Gail (Heid) Pecora, Tim Briscoe (Claire) and Kevin Kwechin (Beth). He was also the grandfather, "Pappa," of Jessica and Peter Pecora, Nancy Briscoe and Alex and Mia Kwechin; and uncle to many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of Tulia (Tom) Ricci, Philomena (the late Robert) Beardsley, Louise (Harry) Williams and David (Dorothy) Pecora.
Pecora received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Bethany College, W.V., in 1950 and worked in the insurance industry for several years before joining his father in the family business, Pecora's Wines and Liquors, a 50-year institution in downtown Yonkers. He was one of Yonkers' most prominent businessmen and contributor to many charities and civic activities over his many years. He was also an amateur artist of oil and charcoal works, an antiques collector, a savvy investor and scrabble enthusiast.
He and Nancy retired to their home on Fairfield Beach in the late 1980s. He enjoyed gardening, sunsets at the beach, trips to the casino with his bus buddies and spending time with his family and friends. His warm smile and quick wit will be remembered by all that knew him.
The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care provided to their father by the staff at the Springs at the Watermark at 3030 Park and to the staff at VITAS Hospice.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, March 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield.
