Mother Nature is a Grinch.

The chilly mix of rain and sleet forecast for tonight has prompted officials to postpone the town's Christmas tree lighting ceremonies on Town Hall Green.

The festivities planned to celebrate the lighting of the 90-foot-tall Norway spruce tree have been postponed until Saturday night.

Choir music will start at 5:55 p.m., with the tree lighted at 7 p.m., coinciding with Santa and his posse's arrival via a fire truck.

The Rev. David Spollett of First Church Congregational has been selected to throw the switch illuminating the tree decorations.
