Panera Bread expects to open an outlet in Black Rock Turnpike's Lake Hills Shopping Center on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The St.Louis-based chain of bakery-cafes had planned open the Fairfield site earlier this month, but the date was pushed back because of the impact from Hurricane Sandy on construction, said spokeswoman Angie Greene-Hicks.

The 4,700-square-foot store, the former site of several restaurants, including Mesa, MacKenzie's, Black Rock Tavern and Pizzeria Uno, will employ 45 to 65 employees.

Panera Bread, which has several Fairfield County stores already, recently opened a second location in Norwalk and plans to open an outlet in the Westport Plaza on Post Road East in Westport.
