The Fairfield Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its fitness center and classes for youths.

The cost to join the fitness center for the year is $130, $110 for seniors. The center, open to Fairfield citizens who are at least 18, is in the Eunece Postol Recreation Center, 75 Mill Plain Road.

Classes, which begin in early January, include karate, acting classes, "Paint Draw and More," guitar lessons, preschool dance and craft programs and Spanish for children, among others, according to a release.

Karate was scheduled to begin Thursday, Jan. 3, and all other programs are slated to start the week of Monday, Jan. 7.

The cost will be prorated if the first class is missed.
