Part of the small bungalow on Fairfield Beach Road that partially collapsed Sunday during Tropical Storm Irene broke away Wednesday and wound up floating Pine Creek.
Fire officials received a report just before 9 a.m. Wednesday from police Lt. Thomas Mrozek that part of the rental dwelling was floating in a westerly direction in the creek near the end of Fairfield Beach Road.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found a 6-by-6-foot bathroom from the house at 2154 Fairfield Beach Road had fallen away from the main structure and was floating upstream on the rising tide.
The home has not been occupied since Saturday morning when the tenants left prior to the storm's arrival.
Firefighters, police, public works personnel and building officials worked to secure and remove the structure. By 1 p.m., the structure was being fished out of the water.
