The Patterson Club recently raised $32,000 for Bridgeport Rescue Mission through a recent Paddle Against Hunger charity marathon at the club, 1118 Cross Highway.
Money raised by the event, which involved almost 150 paddlers keeping at least one of four courts in play for 24 hours, will go toward the homeless shelter and its fight against hunger in the area, according to a release from the club.
The shelter provides nearly 40,000 meals monthly to its residents, guests and families in the community, according to the American Platform Tennis Association. Last year, the shelter gave over 525,000 meals to its guests and the working poor as well as over 57,000 mobile kitchen meals. More than half of its income last year came from individual donations totaling more than $1.5 million, the association states.
