While Fairfield firefighters joined Westport fire crews responding to a fatal Merritt Parkway motorcycle accident late Friday and a multi-vehicle Interstate 95 crash early Saturday, they also had handle two other serious mishaps on local streets.

A pedestrian -- described by firefighters as a "young male" -- was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle on North Benson Road about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The pedestrian, who was not immediately identified, was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment of injuries, according to a release from Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, a car struck a tree on Congress Street, injuring the woman driver.

The driver, who was pulled from the wreck by a bystander, was hospitalized for treatment of what firefighters said were "serious" injuries. She was not immediately identified.

Police are investigating both incidents.
